Questions & Answers About Building Your New Home
- How long does it take you to build a home?
This is a difficult question to answer because each buyer is different and each buyer has his or her own ways to personalize a home. These personal selections and changes have to be priced and the more changes there are, the more individual pricing there is and the longer it takes. The process from signing the contract through design sessions, plan reviews, drafting and permitting is taking about 24 weeks. We call this time period Pre-start. After that, the construction period has been averaging about 210 days. However, there are events that are beyond our control that may affect the construction time line: hurricanes or other severe weather conditions, supply shortages, building code changes and permitting.

- Do you make custom changes?
Yes and no. While no two houses that Nohl Crest Homes builds are the same, we do start with standard floor plans. We invite and encourage customers to make color and style selections that will make their home unique. There are many options and upgrades that are available in every home we build. Options are items in a home that are not standard features. Options can be purchased at the Nohl Crest Homes Design Center to help personalize your home to fit your particular lifestyle. Options can range from fireplaces and appliances to pre-wiring and room configurations. A homebuyer can choose to upgrade to a higher-level of material or product in several areas of the home (e.g. countertops, flooring, cabinetry, appliances, etc.). Return to questions

- What makes a green home a healthier home?
A primary source of indoor air pollution is called VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) which often give a new house that "new house smell". VOCs are unnatural, harmful gasses emitted by ordinary new carpeting and certain other floor coverings. Nohl Crest Homes' green homes use primarily ceramic tile flooring except in bedrooms where low-VOC carpeting may be installed. Return to questions
- Does it cost more to build a green home?
Only a little. In fact, green building a Nohl Crest home costs about 3% to 6% more than our traditional building because Nohl Crest home have always been high-performance homes. You'll be glad to know that the savings in reduced electricity and water usage pay back the homeowner for the difference, usually within six or seven years. Return to questions
